Hawks Bats Erupt for 21 Runs in Win Over West Conn

DANBURY, Conn. - The Hawks offense continued its hot streak on Thursday defeating West Conn by a 21-3 final in non-conference action. 

Rapid Recap:

  • Junior Jackson Ciccone (Danbury, Conn.) kicked off the scoring in the first inning launching a two-run homer to score sophomore JJ Romatzick (Stratford, Conn.) who doubled to lead off the inning. In the second the lead got pushed to 7-0 in favor of the visitors. It started with a grand slam for junior John Russell (Eastchester, N.Y.), followed by a RBI ground out for graduate student Jake Santiago (Bristol, Conn.). Hartford continued to pour on runs in the top of the fourth as sophomore Alek Popovich (Rochdale, Mass.) got a sacrifice fly, followed by a two-run blast for Santiago. 
  • Now trailing by 10 runs the Wolves finally got on the board scoring three runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth. In the sixth Hartford took the double-digit lead back as Popovich doubled home Ciccone to start things off. A bases loaded walk for junior Ryan Knight (Peabody, Mass.) added the second run of the inning. Russell followed it up with a two run single followed by a RBI single by Romatzick. Ciccone continued to add the insurance with a two run triple as the Hawks led 17-3. Hartford tacked on four more runs in the seventh as sophomore Peyton West (South Windsor, Conn.) and Russell each homered as the Hawks went on to win 21-3. 

On the Mound:

  • Freshman Ryan Sheehy (Shelton, Conn.) got the start going a single inning punching out two while allowing just one hit. Freshman Justin Gouin (North Haven, Conn.) came in for the second tossing an inning with a strikeout. Freshman Jeffrey Blake (Hopewell, N.J.) threw the third inning followed by freshman Michael Greco (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) who allowed the three runs in the fourth. Senior Teague Mulcahy (Bayonne, N.J.) followed with an inning of work. Sophomore Tyler Blumetti (Southington, Conn.) and freshman Evan Gentile (Berlin, Conn.) each had a single inning of work without allowing a run. 

At the Plate:

  • Russell had a huge game going 3-for-4 with two long balls and eight RBIs. Ciccone went 3-for-5 with a homer, triple and double with four RBIs and three runs scored. Santiago and West added the other homers, while seven different Hawks had ribbys.

"We all know what our team is capable of and putting up 38 runs this week with the end of the season and playoffs coming up is exactly where we want to be", said junior John Russell (Eastchester, N.Y.). "We're heating up at the right time and ready to win some more games in the next few weeks."

Up Next:
The Hawks will host Gordon College over the weekend as part of senior day.
