Hawks Volleyball Sweeps Albertus Magnus College

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The University of Hartford volleyball team picked up a quick three-set victory on Friday night besting Albertus Magnus College 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-17)

Rapid Recap: 
  • The first set saw the Falcons jump ahead 6-1. Hartford would storm right back with a 10-2 run highlighted by a kill from junior Jordan Murphy (East Hampton, Conn.) and sophomore Emily Theobald (Verona, N.J.). Albertus Magnus kept the set close with them still trailing 16-15, but Hartford finally put away the visitors with a 9-2 closing run with kills going to junior Jenna Murphy (East Hampton, Conn.), Jo. Murphy and junior Kalle Legassey (Prospect, Conn.). 
  • The Hawks stayed hot scoring the first six points of the second set behind two aces for senior Kylee Connally (Dallas, Texas). Albertus Magnus would try to come back in the set cutting the deficit to three at 11-8, but Hartford would continue to stay ahead pushing the lead back to 18-12 with a pair of kills going to Je. Murphy. Senior Juliana Robinshaw (South Windsor, Conn.) helped close the set out with an ace and kill as the Hawks would win 25-17 yet again. 
  • The Falcons held an early 9-8 lead in the third set, but Hartford once again would respond with a 8-1 run with kills by Je. Murphy, Jo. Murphy, junior Nyanakuak Piok (East Syracuse, N.Y.) and sophomore Gabriela Caucci (Bristol, Conn.). Holding the lead at 16-10, the Hawks would stay on the attack holding the lead the rest of the way winning 25-17 for a third straight set.

"We really wanted to protect our home court", said senior Juliana Robinshaw (South Windsor, Conn.). "We really rode the momentum coming into this game and used a full week of practice to get ready. We hope this will help us flow into tomorrow on a good note."

Inside the Numbers: 
  • Je. Murphy led Hartford with nine kills and five solo blocks in the win. Jo. Murphy registered seven kills and seven digs. Robinshaw added four kills, four digs and a pair of aces. 
  • Connally led the passing effort with 17 assists.
  • The Hawks had 30 kills compared to 24 for Albertus Magnus College, but Hartford had a 12-3 blocks advantage. 
Up Next: 
The Hawks will travel to the United States Merchant Marine Academy for a tri-match tomorrow taking on West Conn and US Merchant Marine Academy.
