Hartford Women's Soccer Falls to Roger Williams 2-1

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - Hartford Women's Soccer hosted Conference of New England opponent Roger Williams University on Saturday, in what would be a well fought battle from the Hawks on both sides as Roger Williams would win 2-1.

Rapid Recap:
  • Things would get off to a quick start for Hartford as they would earn a penalty chance in the third minute, senior Kathleen Brush (Wethersfield, Conn.) would step up into the penalty spot, however Roger Williams goalkeeper  Lizzy Thompson would come in clutch, as she would guess right and make the save for Roger Williams. The rest of the first half would be relatively slow, as both teams would battle for possession, as the first half would end in a 0-0 draw.
  • In the second half, both teams would continue to brawl back and forth, for the first 20 minutes, until in the 72nd minute where Brush would knock in a cross from freshman Olivia Fuimara (Trumbull, Conn.) to give the Hawks the first lead of the day for either team. However, Roger Williams would not go down that easily, as in the 74th minute they would come down with an attack of their own and find the back of the net. With both teams' backs against the wall, some sloppy play and lack of possession for both teams would accrue. In the 89th minute, Roger Williams would find the dagger as Leah Costa would come down and find the back of the net, taking on multiple Hawks defenders.

Inside the Numbers:
  • Brush would finish with one goal on four shots, and three on goal in 76 minutes, sophomore Anastasia Nerney (Glocester, R.I.) would take three shots, with two on goal in 89 minutes. Freshman Madelyn Nunnamaker  (Sutton, Mass.) would finish with seven saves, and two goals allowed.
  • Hartford would be out-shot 17-8 by Roger Williams.
  • Roger Williams would take seven corners to Hartford's four.
  • Both teams would play with physicality as Roger Williams would out-foul Hartford 9-6.
