SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Hartford men's soccer team fell to Western New England University on Wednesday afternoon dropping the game by a 3-2 final. With the loss the Hawks will be the #6 seed in the Conference of New England (CNE) Playoffs and will be on the road Saturday.
Rapid Recap:
- The Hawks started fast getting a goal in the first two minutes as senior Ron Palillo (Stony Brook, N.Y.) picked up his second goal of the year. After the goal the game steadied down with the next real chance coming in the 31st minute which drew a save from junior Cristian Vitti (Stamford, Conn.). On a counter the Hawks doubled their lead in the 40th minute as freshman Rory Ohalloran (Stamford, Conn.) found sophomore Eddie Hageman (Colchester, Conn.) who guided the ball into the back of the net. The Golden Bears would respond in the 45th minute as Saif Shaker found Marcus Joshi who scored with nine seconds left in the first half as the score ended 2-1 into the break.
- Western New England would stun the Hawks out of the break scoring twice within the first five minutes to take a 3-2 lead. Ben Riley and Joshi were the goal scorers as the Golden Bears now held the lead. WNE stayed on the attack with Vitti needing to make three saves to keep the deficit at just a goal. Hartford struggled to get forward, but the Vitti kept them in it as three more saves in the 83rd minute kept the game at 3-2. The Hawks would have a final corner kick, but got nothing out of it as they fell by the final.
