Hartford Men's Soccer Earn a Commanding 3-0 Win on Senior Night

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Hartford men's soccer team, hosted Conference of New England opponent Wentworth Insitute of Technology for their senior night on Saturday. The Hawks would win in a commanding fashion taking a 3-0 victory over the Leopards after 90 minutes.

Rapid Recap:
  • Both teams would enter the game playing a physical brand of soccer, as in the 15th minute both teams would be issued a yellow card, senior Ron Pallilo (Stony Brook, N.Y.) would be issued one of the cards. Neither team would be able to maintain a majority of the possession for a majority of the first half. The Hawks would gain some momentum on a counter attack, as a cross into the box would lead to a header back across the other side and junior Brayden Tahiliani (Toronto, Ontario) would find the goal off a half-volleyed header from junior Kyle Theobald (Sandyston, N.J.) to take a 1-0 lead. Hartford would get another chance at the end of the half after earning two back two back corner kicks with the final one resulting in a diving save from Wentworth.
  • To start the second half, the Hawks would once again get booked, as graduate student Zaire Wharton (Queens, N.Y.) would be dealt a yellow card, and shortly after junior Adam Eley (Newington, Conn.) would also be dealt a yellow card. However the Hawks would maintain their aggression and find the back of the net off a corner kick that would find the foot of Tahiliani once again and be buried into the bottom left corner. With already imposing lead, the Hawks would keep their foot on the gas as in the 89th minute junior Jared Noble (Nesconset, N.Y.) would score off a free kick from the corner of the field to end things at 3-0.
Inside the Numbers:
  • Tahiliani would finish with six shots, three on goal, and two goals. Noble would finish with one goal on his one shot and an assist, Theobald would finish with an assist and two shots on goal. Junior Christian Vitti (Stamford, Conn.) would finish with two saves in net in 90 minutes.
  • The Hawks would finish with 12 shots compared to Wentworth's eight.
  • Both games, would be aggressive as Wentworth would end with 17 fouls, and Hartford with 10.
Post Game Press:
"Got to show up for the seniors, it's their last season, got to bring everything out for them...We've had a couple bad weeks, so we want to enjoy this win, make sure everybody's seeing their families, and then right into training, having the same intensity as we did last week so training and having that same intensity is how we keep it going." Tahiliani said post-match.
