WEST HARTFORD, CONN - Hartford Hawks Field Hockey took on the Wolves of Western Connecticut State University for the first time in their history where the Wolves would come out on top with a 5-3 win.
Rapid Recap -
- The Wolves would jump all over the Hawks having the first shot of the day be stopped by Junior Nicole Ciampa (Jefferson, N.J.) but the Wolves would pounce on the rebound and find the net for the opening goal. 4 minutes later, Ciampa would once again keep the initial shot out but the Hawks would find themselves down 2 as they failed to clear it. Late in the first quarter, the Hawks would steal the momentum and snag a goal back as Sophomore Eva Nasse (Wethersfield, Conn.) found the back of the net.
- The 2nd Quarter was all Hawks as they took nine total shots and scored on their final one as Freshman Olive Thatcher (Keene, N.H.) was able to finish off the feed from Sophomore Ashley Taylor (Deerfield, Mass.) and the score was knotted at 2 at the break.
- The Wolves would start the second half similarly to the first half, jumping back in front on a penalty corner as Erin Frank stuffed the shot home to make it 3-2. West Conn would get another penalty corner just four minutes later and they would capitalize again on a tip in and double their lead to 4-2. Hartford would turn it up after the Wolves goal and cut the lead in half thanks to Sophomore Kyra Bernard (Agawam, Mass.) scoring her ninth goal of the season.
- The Wolves would make a keeper switch at the start of the 4th and that would prove to be massive as she shut down the Hawks in the final frame. The Wolves would turn good defense into offense and put the game to bed with their fifth goal in the final minute and would walk away victorious by a score of 5-3.
