Hartford Women's Tennis Earns Back-to-Back Wins with Victory at Albertus Magnus College

NEW HAVEN, Conn.- The Hartford women's tennis team earned its second consecutive victory on Thursday, October 8th, defeating Albertus Magnus College in non-conference action with a final score of 4-1. The win marks the Hawks' first back-to-back victories of the season after earning a 4-3 win over Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Wednesday, October 7th.

  • Hartford opened the match with a sweep of all three doubles contests to take an early advantage. Graduate student Victalia Z. Deida (New Haven, Conn.) and graduate student Lia Gosselin (South Bend, Ind.) earned a 6-4 victory over Madison Rossetti and Ashley Ouellette. Sophomore Maddie Pearlman (New Hampton, N.Y.) and freshman Isabelle Simino (Franklin, Mass.) followed with a dominant 6-0 win over Aprile Allen and Shelby Bureau. Graduate student Lora Acquario (East Nassau, N.Y.) and junior Jessica Marks (Hartford, Conn.) completed the doubles sweep with a 6-1 victory over Anaeliz Guerrero and Camily Silva. 
  • Pearlman continued her all of her momentum in singles, defeating Ouellette, 6-0, 6-0, to give Hartford another point. Simino then followed with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Allen, while Deida added a 6-2, 2-6, 6-0 win over Angelina Tilghman. Junior Natalie Lamb (Glastonbury, Conn.) sealed the deal for the Hawks after defeating Bureau, 6-3, 6-1.
  • Albertus Magnus earned a singles point as Rossetti defeated Gosselin, 6-0, 6-0. The remaining singles match between Acquario and Abigail Francis was left unfinished due to darkness, with the players splitting the first two sets and the second set reaching 5-5.

"It feels great to get back to back wins," says Lamb. "We really pushed through tough points, supported each other, and worked together as a team to get the win. Going forward, this shows us the importance of staying resilient, fighting for every point, and trusting each other on the court"

The Hawks will be back in action to for conference play on Tuesday, October 13th, when they travel to Bristol, R.I., to face Roger Williams University.
