Koontz Named Volleyball Assistant Coach

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – On Thursday, Hartford volleyball head coach Johan Dulfer announced the hiring of Kylie Koontz as an assistant coach for the Hawks volleyball program.

"We are very excited to welcome Kylie to our team. She did an incredible job connecting with the players during the interview and her goals for the program align perfectly with mine. I can't wait to get started on building the foundation of our future success with Kylie on our staff."

Most recently, Koontz coached with Deep Dish Volleyball in Bournemouth, England, working with athletes ranging from beginner to elite levels and leading sessions on the competitive beach tour.

"I would like to thank Coach Dulfer, Denise Marchese and those involved with the search committee for this opportunity," said Koontz. "Every conversation continued to lead me to the same conclusion, that University of Hartford was a program I needed to be a part of. The potential this program has is undeniable and I am incredibly excited to be a part of it."

Kylie also has coaching experience with Lions Juniors in LaSalle, Illinois and also spent three summers assisting with Somonauk middle school volleyball.

As a player, Koontz competed at Minot State University where Koontz earned a full athletic scholarship and ranked among the team leaders in blocks per set while finishing second in hitting percentage. Koontz also competed internationally while studying at Bournemouth University, helping the indoor team to a Top-eight national finish and earning a silver medal on the United Kingdom Beach Tour.

Koontz earned a bachelor's degree in professional communication from Minot State University in 2023 and recently completed a master's degree in creative writing and publishing from Bournemouth University in 2025.
