Hawks Fall to #4 Salve Regina 13-3

AUBURNDALE, FL - The Hawks took on #4 Salve Regina University on Tuesday, March 17th in which they fell short to Seahawks in seven innings, 13-3. 

Rapid Recap:
  • Salve Regina got things going early as they jumped out in front early scoring seven runs on four hits through the first two innings. 
  • The Hawks would come back with a big third inning. By way of a big two out rally, starting with a single from junior Alex Popovich (Dudley, Mass.) would bring in sophomore Nico DiGioia (Hamden, Conn.). In the next at bat senior Jackson Ciccone (Danbury, Conn.) would bring in junior J.J. Romatzick (Stratford, Conn.) on a single through the left side. Graduate Student Ryan Knight would come up in the next appearance and bring in Popovich on a single into left field. 
  • This would be where the Hartford scoring would end, and Salve would continue to expand the lead late in the seventh inning. As they would score six runs in the seventh to put the game into mercy rule and end the game in the seventh inning. 
On the Mound:
  • Sophomore Jeffery Blake (Hopewell, N.J.) would get the start on the bump for Hartford going one inning, giving up six runs on three hits, with three walks in six at bats. 
  • Junior Sam Smith (Branford, Conn.) would come in for relief in the second inning he would go two and a third innings, giving up one run on three hits, to go along with two walks and a strike out in nine at bats. 
  • Sophomore Michael Greco would come in next for Hartford, going two and two third innings, giving up four walks, on no hits, no runs and a strikeout. 
  • Junior AJ Formato (Fairfield, Conn.) came out to close for the Hawks giving up six runs on five hits, with two walks and a strikeout. 
At the Plate:
  • Popovich lead the Hawks at the plate going 2-4 with a pair of singles and an RBI. Junior Zayn Godbee (Hartford, Conn.) contributing the only extra base hit, with a double in the sixth inning. Ciccone, Knight, Digioia, and senior Patrick Joseph (Pomona, N.Y.) would all end the day going 1-3.

The Hawks will play University of Scranton tomorrow, Wednesday Mar. 17th with first pitch slated for 9:30AM.
