Hawks Men's Tennis Wins First CNE Match Against Curry College

MILTON, Mass. - The Hartford men's tennis team picked up their first victory of the spring season on Tuesday defeating Curry College by a 7-0 final. This was the first Conference of New England (CNE) win in program history. 

Rapid Recap:
  • The Hawks won all three doubles matches. In #1 doubles sophomore Jake Short (Poughquag, N.Y.) and sophomore Anthony Pomares (Norwich, N.Y.) won by a 6-2 final. Freshman Eli Benoit (Plainville, Conn.) and freshman Yande Simunyola (Dawsonville, Ga.) won by a 6-1 margin and freshman Thomas Andersen (Berlin, Conn.) and freshman Jared DeGruttola (Auburn, Mass.) won #3 doubles by a 7-5 final. 
  • In singles play Short won #1 singles 6-0, 6-0. Simunyola won 6-1, 6-3 in #2 singles. Pomares had a good showing in #3 singles winning 6-0, 6-2. Benoit won 6-4, 6-4, while DeGruttola came back to win #5 singles 3-6, 6-1, 10-8. Finally in #6 singles sophomore Connor Nickischer (Wallingford, Conn.) won by a 6-0, 6-1 final.
