MANCHESTER, Conn. - The Hartford men's tennis team kicked off the spring 2026 semester on Saturday night falling to UMass Boston by a 5-2 final.

Rapid Recap:

• The Beacons would earn two of the three doubles matches. UMass Boston would win #1 doubles by a 6-3 margin and the #2 doubles by a 7-5 narrow win. Hartford would get a single win in #3 doubles as freshman Jared DeGruttola (Auburn, Mass.) and freshman Thomas Andersen (Berlin, Conn.) picked up a 6-4 victory. 
• In singles action the Hawks would get two points. DeGruttola would get the Hawks first point in #6 singles securing a 7-6, 7-6 win, the first singles victory of his collegiate career. Freshman Eli Benoit (Plainville, Conn.) would also pick up his first collegiate win in #5 singles by a 6-3, 6-2 final. Hartford would fall in the rest of the singles action. Both freshman Yande Simunyola (Dawsonville, Ga.) and senior Kamau Nicholas (East Orange, N.J.) would fall in three games as the Hawks would fall 5-2.
