Hartford Baseball Dominate and Pick up First Win over Mount Saint Vincent at Fordham

BRONX, N.Y. - Hartford Hawks baseball picked up their first win of the season with a dominant 12-1 win over the University of Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins at Fordham University.  

Rapid Recap: 

  • After a scoreless first inning, the Hawks would jump ahead in the second on a sac-fly from Senior Jeremy Mangiameli (Middlefield, Ct), which would plate Junior Alek Popovich (Dudley, Ma) to put the Hawks up 1-0. Both the Dolphins and Hawks would put up scoreless frames in the third and fourth, senior Captain Joe Dooley (West Hartford, Ct) went the first three innings for the Hawks, keeping the Dolphins bats silent.  
  • Hartford would add their second run of the game in the fifth inning on a wild pitch that would score Junior JJ Romatzick (Stratford, Ct). The Hawks would blow the game open in the sixth inning, scoring five runs in four consecutive batters. The Hawks would not stop there, adding two more in the 7th on a bases loaded walk from senior Jackson Ciccone (Danbury, Ct) followed by a Popovich groundout. In the eighth three more runs would come in, Romatzick battled through an eight-pitch bases-loaded walk to get the first in, then Ciccone was hit by a pitch, and the third run of the inning and 12th for the Hawks would score on yet another wild pitch. The Dolphins would add a run in the ninth from a Zach Turko triple to stop the shutout, making the final score 12-1 Hawks.  

On the Mound:

  • Dooley started the game on the hill and went the first three allowing zero runs on four hits with three punchouts. Junior Anthony Bubba (Jefferson, NJ) went the middle three for Hartford. Bubba only allowed two base runners and struck out two. Senior Captain Michael Featherstone (Ramsey, NJ) finished the outing with three strikeouts, two hits, and a run allowed.  

At the Plate:

  • Romatzick was on base three times, scored three runs, and drove in one. Senior Captain Ryan Knight (Peabody, Ma) had a two-for-four day with an RBI. Popovich was on base three times and drove in one. Ciccone drove in two runs for the Hawks.  

Post Game Press:
"It was great to finally get back on the field today and get a good team win," said senior Ryan Knight (Peabody, Mass.). "I thought our pitchers did great keeping us in the game until our offense was able to break it open. It felt good to contribute to the offense's success tonight."

The Hawks will get to play on their home field as they take on Eastern Connecticut State, this Tuesday, March 10th with a start time of 3:00 P.M. at Fiondella Field.
