WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – On Tuesday, Hartford tennis head coach Jeff Splinter announced the hiring of George Danes as an assistant coach for the Hawks men's and women's tennis programs.

"We are excited to welcome George to the Hawks", said Splinter. "He brings a wealth of knowledge as a player in the Conference of New England (CNE) from his playing career at Endicott College and a lot of good coaching experience from Union last year as well as coaching lessons. He is an outgoing person who will help out a lot on the recruiting side as we continue to get stronger and compete in the conference. As a second year program we are thrilled to have someone who is dedicated and will strive to help our student-athletes on and off the court be the best versions of themselves."

Danes joins Hartford after being a volunteer assistant coach at Union College for the men's program. During his time with the with the Garnet Chargers the team would win a program-record 11 matches while also winning its first postseason victory in two decades. The men's team would end the year ranked 59th in the ITA national rankings. 

Prior to joining Union College, Danes spent time as a tennis instructor at Mid-Cape Athletic Club and Kingsbury Club & Spa. 

Danes played collegiately at Endicott College for four seasons and was named a team captain for the 2024-25 season. George would be an All-Conference selection twice in his four seasons with the Gulls.

Danes graduated from Endicott College with a bachelor's in sport management in May of 2025. 

The Hartford women's tennis schedule has yet to be announced for the 2026-27 season.
