Hartford Women's Soccer Secures 3-0 Shutout Victory Over Springfield College

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Hartford women's soccer team improved to 2-0-1 on the young season defeating Springfield College by a 3-0 final. Senior Kathleen Brush (Wethersfield, Conn.) led the way with a brace including an olympico in the win. 

Rapid Recap:

  • The Hawks and Pride split chances in the opening 10 minutes, with each keeper making a save in the early going. In the 20th minute freshman Taylor Freimuth (Terryville, Conn.) had a chance which was denied by Mallory Forgatch as the game stayed 0-0. The teams traded possession with no team taking clear control of the game as we ended 45 minutes scoreless. 
  • After another 15 minutes of scoreless play the Hawks would jump in front as a stellar ball from senior Reese Sadler (Newington, Conn.) connected with Brush who powered it past the diving keeper for the lead. Hartford would slow establish consistent possession in the second half and 10 minutes later on a corner, Brush decided to do it herself finding the back of the net on the corner kick to double the lead. The Hawks continued to gain momentum getting three more shots on in the 74th minute but Forgatch kept the deficit at 2-0. The Hawks would get the insurance goal in the 87th minute as Freimuth out muscled a center back and then finished the chance in the box as Hartford rolled to the 3-0 win.

"Tonight was a great test", said senior Kathleen Brush (Wethersfield, Conn.). "They obviously have already tested two other teams in our conference. We knew they would give us pressure and this kind of gets us more prepared for Saturday. The goals are still the same for us."

Inside the Numbers:
  • Brush netted her 36th and 37th goals of her career in the win, while Freimuth continues her hot start with her fourth goal of the season. 
  • Sadler picked up her first assist of the year in the win. 
  • Freshman Madelyn Nunnemacher (Sutton, Mass.) improves to 2-0-0 on the year holding a clean sheet with a single save. 
  • Forgatch made seven saves in the loss for Springfield. 
  • Hartford held a 16-4 shot advantage with a 10-1 on target differential in the win.
