Matt Mihalich

Matt Mihalich enters his fourth season as a member of the Hartford men’s basketball coaching staff in 2018-19. Joining the staff in 2015 as the program’s Director of Basketball Operations, Mihalich was promoted to assistant coach prior to the 2017 campaign.

Mihalich landed at Hartford after spending one season with the George Mason men’s basketball team as an assistant coach in 2014-15. Prior to joining the Patriots’ coaching staff, he was an assistant coach at Bishop O'Connell High School in Arlington, Va. for four seasons. In addition to guiding the team to a combined 83-47 overall record during that stretch, five student-athletes took their game to the Division I level under Mihalich's watch, including McDonald's High School All-American Melo Trimble.

Mihalich was a two-sport athlete at John Carroll University, where he graduated in 2010. A member of both the men's basketball team and the track and field team, he went on to earn his Master of Education from Marymount University in 2014.

A native of Buffalo, N.Y., Mihalich comes from a coaching family. His father, Joe, currently leads the Hofstra men’s basketball program after serving at the helm of Niagara University for 15 years. In addition, his older brother, Joe Jr., is an assistant basketball coach at Penn, while his twin brother, Tony, is an assistant track and field coach at Iona.

Mihalich and his wife, Brittney, are the proud parents of Matthew Charles, born in 2015, and Brendan, born in 2018. The family resides in West Hartford.
