Billy Varasconi

Billy Varasconi joined University of Hartford Athletics as an Assistant Athletic Trainer in the winter of 2022.  Prior to Hartford, Billy did a brief stint as an Intern Athletic Trainer at St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, NY during the fall of 2019. He then went to work as an Intern Athletic Trainer at his alma mater Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT during the winter for 2019. Billy then moved into a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer position at Sacred Heart University while pursuing his master’s degree during 2020-2022. After gaining his master’s degree he also worked for Concentra as an Onsite Athletic Trainer and Health and Wellness Coach focused on an industrial population.

During his time at Sacred Heart University, Billy assisted with all teams that entered the training room, while taking care of the Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Teams primarily during 2019. During the 2020-2021 year, he was the AT for the women’s soccer as well as the men’s volleyball, and in 2021-2022 he worked with women’s soccer and women’s lacrosse. Billy rehabilitated many post-surgical cases while at SHU including ACL, meniscus, and hip labrum repairs. When the pandemic arose, it put a brief stop to all athletics, so to ensure the athletes were as safe as possible upon return to the fall regular season, Billy earned a Contact Tracing Certification from Johns Hopkins University to assist in keeping outbreaks of Covid in the dorms and on the fields to an absolute minimum.

Upon graduation, Billy spent the next 6 months traveling as an Onsite Athletic Trainer and Health and Wellness Coach for Concentra, primarily with Turner Construction. Billy was able to help industrial workers remain at work and continue their career while working through on-going injuries. He assisted with worker’s compensation cases, lead morning stretching programs, as well as became a certified breath alcohol and urine drug screening collector.

Billy received his B.S. in athletic training at Sacred Heart University (2019) and also holds a M.S. in Exercise Science and Nutrition (2022). Along with his Athletic Training Licensure and Certification, he is also an Adjunct Professor in the Exercise Science Program at University of Hartford. Billy now works primarily with Men’s soccer, Women’s Lacrosse, Indoor Track and field, as well as both the men’s and women’s golf teams here at Hartford.
