Alex Wrona enters his second season as a volunteer assistant coach for the Hartford women’s soccer team in 2021. A local product from Burlington, Conn., and former Division I soccer player, he brings more than 10 years of coaching experience to the Hawks.
Wrona, who joined the women's soccer staff in 2019, helped guide the program to the Title Match of the 2019 America East Championship in his first season with the Hawks. Hartford finished with a 10-7-2 overall record, but came one victory shy of qualifying for the NCAA Tournament after falling at top-seeded Stony Brook, 2-1.
Wrona played collegiately at George Mason for two seasons, where he logged time in 11 games for the Patriots in 2014 and 2015 prior to transferring to Bryant. A midfielder, he combined for 24 appearances and 12 starts with the Bulldogs in 2016 and 2017. In addition, Wrona spent four seasons with the Western Mass Pioneers PDL, which is a member of the USL D-3 Pro League.
Before his collegiate career, Wrona played two seasons of soccer at Westminster School before joining Oakwood Soccer Club in 2009 following his sophomore season. He finished his Oakwood career with 20 goals and 52 assists, helping the club make four-straight Pre-Academy and Academy Playoff appearances.
In addition to his playing career, Wrona has served as a coach and manger for Leszek Wrona Soccer Academy, LLC and Ajax Premier in Bristol, Conn., since 2010. In addition, he has been a member of the staff at SoccerPlus Camps in Kansas City, Mo., since 2013. Serving as a director and staff coach of the Fieldplayer Academy at SoccerPlus Camps, Wrona has had the opportunity to work collaboratively with former Head Women’s National Team Coach and Olympic Gold Medalist Tony DiCicco.
Wrona graduated from Bryant University in 2018 with a degree in business administration. Outside of coaching, he took on internships at FLP Financial Group, LLC, in Cheshire, Conn., and at Byrne Financial Freedom, LLC, in Franklin, Mass.
