Slayton joined the staff at the University of Hartford in the Summer of 2022, primarily working with the Goalkeepers for both the Men’s and Women’s programs. Now in his third season in this role, Slayton looks to continue to develop the top goalkeepers in the conference.
Following a four-year career at the University Hartford, Slayton went on to play three seasons in the USL Championship. He signed his first professional contract with the Real Salt Lake Organization, with the Real Monarchs, and enjoyed a two-year stint out West where he found himself bouncing between the MLS and USL squads. For his third season, Slayton signed with Hartford Athletic for their 2022 campaign, finishing his professional career back where his soccer journey began.
In his time at the University of Hartford, Slayton amassed nearly 7,000 minutes across 75 games, 74 of which were starts.
As a senior, Slayton was named to the America East All-Conference Second Team this past season, Slayton rounded out his impressive career by leading the conference in total saves (91) and save percentage (.805), while ranking second in goals against average (1.01). A native of Wethersfield, Conn., Slayton was named America East Defensive Player of the Week four times in 2019, which is the most weekly honors for a Hartford player in a single season since 2003.
Slayton also etched his name into Hartford's record book after setting the program's record for shutouts in a single season with 10. The senior broke the record after keeping a clean sheet in the Hawks' 1-0 win against Binghamton in the quarterfinals of the America East Tournament. Slayton departs the program ranked tied for first in career shutouts (21), seventh in career wins (26), third in career GAA (1.11), sixth in career saves (273), sixth in career save percentage (.774) and 10th in single-season save percentage (.805).
In his junior year, Slayton started 16 games, tallying 61 saves while posting a 1.67 goals against average and a 0.678 save percentage. This resulted in him being ranked second in the America East in saves per game (3.81). America East All-Academic Team Honors and an America East co-Defensive Player of the Week Honors were also highlights of his season.
In 18 starts as a sophomore, Slayton led the America East with 67 saves. Across 1,628 minutes of action, he tallied a 1.22 GAA and 0.753 Save Percentage along with 3 clean sheets.
In his first year, Slayton turned in one of the finest freshman seasons by a goalkeeper in program history. Making 19 starts in 20 appearances, Slayton posted a 0.99 GAA (No. 3 among Hartford freshmen), kept 7 clean sheets and had 78 saves (both second in the America East), and ranked third in the conference with a 0.796 Save Percentage. This helped garner Rookie of the Week Honors on two occasions as well as an America East All-Rookie Team nod. The team went on to make a late season run and eventually lost in the America East Championship game.
