Todd Sadler enters his eighth season as a member of the Hartford women's soccer coaching staff in 2026 after joining the staff as an assistant coach in January 2019. Sadler is no stranger to Hartford’s soccer programs as he was a four-year standout on the Hawks’ men’s team from 1994-98.
In 2025, the Hawks continued their dominance finishing the year 14-4-2 with a 7-3 Conference of New England (CNE) record. Hartford would earn their second-straight CNE Regular-Season Championship as well as the #1 seed in the CNE Tournament. Hartford would defeat the University of New England on November 5th in the CNE Semifinals before defeating Endicott College on November 8th by a 2-0 final to the win the second-consecutive CNE Championship. Hartford would earn an at-large bid for the NCAA Tournament taking on the University of Rochester on November 15th. The Hawks would fall to the Yellow Jackets by a 2-0 final.
In 2024, Hartford officially joined the CNE where in their first season ended the campaign 16-3-2 and 7-1-1 in conference play. Hartford would earn the Regular-Season Championship, winning the CNE semi-finals before defeating Gordon College 6-0 on November 9th to claim the CNE title. The Hawks would also host the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) tournament defeating New Jersey City University and Springfield College to win a second-consecutive ECAC championship. During the post season Hartford would outscore opponents 19-0 over the four games in West Hartford to secure both championships.
In his first season as an assistant with the Hawks, Sadler helped guide the program to the Title Match of the 2019 America East Championship. Hartford finished with a 10-7-2 overall record, but came one victory shy of qualifying for the NCAA Tournament after falling at top-seeded Stony Brook, 2-1.
Sadler was instrumental in the development of Connecticut native Anna Cronin. In 2019 the two-time team co-captain closed out her career as one of the top defenders in the nation after receiving a slew of postseason awards, including US Coaches All-Atlantic Region Second Team, NEWISA All-New England Second Team, America East All-Conference First Team and US Coaches Scholar All-Region Second Team honors.
Hartford’s exemplary work in the classroom has also continued since Sadler’s arrival. This past semester, all 20 women’s soccer student-athletes posted a 3.0 GPA or higher, including 13 that recorded a GPA of 3.5 of higher. Furthermore, the team’s 3.70 GPA for the 2021-22 academic year was the second-highest mark among Hartford’s 17 Division I programs.
A four-year starter and team captain in 1997, Sadler was a key member of the 1996 team, which put together one of the most memorable campaigns in program history. That season, he helped lead the Hawks to 17 wins — the most in program history — in addition to piloting the team to an America East Regular-Season Championship. Furthermore, Hartford became the first team in school history to make a run to the NCAA Tournament’s Elite 8.
Sadler, who combined for 80 starts in the Scarlet and White during his career, was a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) All-Championship Team selection in 1995.
After his career at Hartford, Sadler took his talents to the professional rankings, playing one year of soccer for the York Shooters SC of the Canadian Professional Soccer League (CPSL).
Sadler’s coaching experience stretches across a variety of levels, as he established himself as one of the top youth coaches in Connecticut. Prior to joining the Hawks, he was the head varsity girls soccer coach at Northwest Catholic High School and a member of the coaching staff at Oakwood Soccer Club.
In 12 seasons as head coach, Sadler built Northwest Catholic into a perennial power, leading the Lions to four state championships in 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2015. A National Coach of the Year finalist in 2012, he left Northwest Catholic as the winningest coach in program history with a 164-54-11 record and .752 winning percentage.
In his role at Oakwood Soccer Club, Sadler coached in the United States Developmental Academy and National Premier Leagues. Leading Oakwood to a pair of New England NPL Championships in 2014 and 2015, he provided guidance throughout the college recruiting process to five Hawks, including Sierra Stone, the America East Rookie of the Year (2016) and Midfielder of the Year (2017)
Sadler has also coached and trained several current and former professional players, including Brad Guzan (US Men’s National Team, Atlanta United MLS, Aston Villa EPL), Josh Lambo (FC Dallas), Eric Lichaj (US Men’s National Team, Hull City) and Chris Schuler (Real Salt Lake MLS).
Sadler, who holds a United States Soccer Federation National “C” License, graduated from Hartford in 1998 with a degree in elementary education.
