Scott Atkin

Scott Atkin joined the University of Hartford in September of 2021 as an Assistant Athletic Trainer.  Before coming to University of Hartford, he began his career in the fall of 2006 as an athletic training intern at Fairfield University while pursuing his Master of Science degree in exercise science-human performance at Southern Connecticut State University (2009).  He graduated from Marist College in May of 2006 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training.  While he was at Marist, he was a member of the varsity swimming and diving team that won their conference championship in 2003, 2005, and 2006. 

After graduating from Marist, he earned the Eastern Athletic Trainer’s Association student oral presentation award as well as the National Athletic Trainer’s Association Poster Presentation Award for his senior year final project titled “Ehrlichiosis: a tick-born disease in a 20 years old male collegiate football player: a case study”.  After graduating from Marist in May of 2006, he passed his Board of Certification exam for athletic training.  He also held a CSCS certification from 2009 until 2023. 

After his internship with Fairfield University, he went onto University of New Haven and worked with the Chargers for 2 years before making the return to Fairfield University in 2010.  In 2012 he was promoted from Assistant Athletic Trainer to Assistant Director of Sports Medicine taking on more administrative duties as well as taking care of inventory and budgeting. During his time at Fairfield, he cover a variety of sports such as basketball, m/w soccer, field hockey and m/w lacrosse to name a few. 

In 2021, he left Fairfield to work in a high school setting for 6 months before returning to the collegiate setting at University of Hartford.  He oversees the care of Women’s Soccer, Men’s Basketball, Softball, M/W Outdoor Track and Field.  In addition to his roles in the athletic department, Scott Atkin also teaches as an adjunct professor for the Department of Exercise Science here at the University of Hartford.
