Tennis Hosts Hofstra on Thursday Afternoon

West Hartford, CT - The University of Hartford men's and women's tennis teams hosted Hofstra University on Tuesday night, the women dropped a 6-0 final, while the men's team had its match halted at a 2-2 score due to rain.

 

The men's team saw its two points come in singles play with Will White and Aaron Kooden picking up singles wins. White earned his first collegiate victory, defeating Eric Gladstone at fifth singles. White picked up the first set by a 7-5 score, with Gladstone evening the match with one set a piece, winning 4-6 in the second. White then picked up his first win with a 6-3 score in the final set. Kooden's win came by way of a forfeit.

 

The Hawks also saw a win in doubles play, also by forfeit. The Pride were unable to field a third doubles team and the Hawks White and Fil Miletic were credited with the victory.


On the women's side, the teams were able to complete all but one singles match before the rain began to fall. The Hawks best matches came in first doubles and fourth singles. In doubles play, Kasey Michels and Maggie Sabatino dropped their first doubles match to Christie Gattelaro and Stacey Kent by an 8-4 score. Nikki Haynal led the Hawks in singles play, dropping her fourth singles match by 6-1, 6-2 scores to Kent.

The men's team will next play on October 8 when they travel to Worcester, MA for a 3:30 p.m. match against the Holy Cross Crusaders. The women's team will also play the Crusaders in their next match, traveling to Worcester for a 3:30 p.m. start on Wednesday, October 7.
