Men's Basketball Opens Home Schedule with Visit from Marist

Game Notes in PDF Format

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -
After opening the season with two games away from home, the Hartford men's basketball team will return to Chase Arena at the Reich Family Pavilion on Wednesday, welcoming Marist in to kick off the home schedule.

Both squads will be searching for their first wins. Marist is 0-1 thus far, falling at Rutgers, 74-67, last Saturday. The Hawks dropped their opener to Quinnipiac on Friday and followed that up with a thriller in Waco against the Baylor Bears. Despite leading nearly the entire game, Hartford was downed at the buzzer when a last-second prayer by Baylor's Ekpe Udoh was answered.

Fans of the Hawks are excited for their first real look at this year's team. Against the much taller Baylor, Hartford held its own thanks to a potent inside-out game. Juniors Joe Zeglinski and Morgan Sabia were lethal from downtown, and junior Joel Barkers held his own inside with 14 points and five rebounds. Barkers, who comes to Hartford from Kirkwood Community College, leads the team through its first two games with 18.5 points and 6.0 rebounds a game.

The reinvigorated offense has been keyed by junior point guard Andres Torres. Through two games, he has dished out 16 assists - including a career-high 12 at Baylor - against just two assists. The 8:1 assist-to-turnover ratio puts him in a tie for second in the nation. His 8.0 assists per game leaves him in a tie for eleventh in the country.

Tickets are still available for tonight's game, and can be purchased by calling (860) 768-HAWK or by emailing tickets@hartford.edu. Fans can also buy tickets at the Malcolm and Brenda Berman Ticket Office at the Sports Center.

Jeff Dooley continues his fifth season as the Voice of the Hawks on the flagship station of Hartford basketball, WDRC-1360. He will be joined this season by veteran analyst and former collegiate standout Randy LaVigne, who returns to Hartford broadcasts for the first time since 1997.
