Cold Shooting Dooms Men's Basketball at Dartmouth, 68-56

Box Score

HANOVER, N.H. -  Kevin Estes scored a season-best eight points off the bench, but the Hartford men's basketball team could not overcome a cold shooting night otherwise as they fell to Dartmouth on Saturday night, 68-56. The Hawks shot just .365 from the floor, hitting just 6-of-26 from beyond the arc.

A frenetic last-minute comeback attempt pulled Hartford (2-4) back from 17 down with just over two minutes to play to eight down with more than a minute remaining, but the Hawks could not make up the entire deficit.

Morgan Sabia led the Hawks with 13 points. Milton Burton knocked down 11 and Andres Torres added 10. Robby Pride led the way for the Big Green (1-4) with 19.

For a second consecutive game, the Hawks found themselves down early, but received a much-needed boost from its bench. Down as many as nine points in the first half, Dan Leibovitz inserted junior Kevin Estes, sophomore Clayton Brothers and freshman Charles White. The trio was on the floor as the Hawks went on a 9-0 run to tie the score at 19.

Dartmouth responded from there, though, and took a 27-21 lead at the half. They quickly expanded their advantage in the second half and would eventually lead by as much as 17.

Sabia's 13 points came in part because of a 3-for-6 day from three-point territory. He is now 15-for-33 on the year, a team-best .455 percentage. The junior from San Anselmo, CA added seven rebounds, also tops on the squad.

Hartford returns home on Wednesday, where it will take on another Ivy League opponent, Yale. The Hawks and Bulldogs tip off at 7 p.m. at Chase Arena at Reich Family Pavilion. Tickets are still available by calling 860-768-HAWK, or by emailing tickets@hartford.edu. Fans can also purchase tickets at the Malcolm and Brenda Berman Box Office at Chase Arena.
