Delva's Double Double and Hall's 17 Lift Hawks to Overtime Win versus Northeastern

West Hartford, CT- The University of Hartford women's basketball team scored its second overtime victory of the season with a 68-63 win over the Northeastern Huskies on Sunday afternoon at the Chase Arena at the Reich Family Pavilion. Hartford was led by senior Diana Delva who finished with her third double double of the season with 21 points and 14 rebounds.

Delva's 14 rebounds are a season high for the forward/center who hit 10-of-14 from the field. She also added three assists, two blocks and a steal in 39 minutes of work. Also adding double digits for Hartford was freshman Alex Hall with 17 points and junior Mary Silvia with 10. Hall finished the game 6-of-8 from the field, including 5-of-7 from beyond the arc. Silvia was 3-of-10 from the field with all three baskets from long range, while going 1-of-2 at the free throw line.

The Hawks finished the game shooting 38.7 percent (24-of-62) from the field and were outshot by their opponent who finished 39.7 percent (23-of-58), including a second half shooting effort of 48.0 percent (12-of-25). Leading all players in the game was Northeastern's Brittany Wilson who finished with 27 points.

Both teams struggled to control the ball with 56 total turnovers, including 33 for the home team. The Hawks allowed 28 points off their 33 turnovers, while converting the Huskies 23 turnovers into 18 points. Hartford was also outscored in the paint 30-18.

The Hawks did come away with a 48-34 advantage on the boards with Delva's 14 leading all players. The majority of Delva's rebounds came on the offensive end of the floor where she had 10 of the teams 20 offensive rebounds. Also adding double digit boards for the Hawks was Erica Beverly who finished with 10 rebounds, matching the Huskies team high of 10 rebounds from Wilson.

Hartford did come out of the gates in impressive fashion, opening up a double digit advantage in less than four minutes. Hartford scored 13 of the first 16 points in the game, taking a 13-3 advantage on a three pointer from Hall, her second of the game. The Hawks extended that lead to as much as 13, 18-5, on a three pointer from Silvia, before the Huskies began to chip away at the lead.

Northeastern managed to get the Hawks lead as low as eight with 10:20 to play in the first half, before Hartford extended it back to 13 on two occasions in the final seven minutes. However, Northeastern Alewould score the final three points of the half, to go down 10 at the break 33-23. Hartford saw its last basket of the half come by way of a layup from Delva with 5:40 to play in the first half.

The Huskies came out of halftime on a vengeance, scoring the first four points on a layup from Kashaia Cannon and a jumper from Wilson before a three pointer from Hall put the Hawks on the board in the second half with 18:19 to play.

Hartford extended its lead back to 10 on a jumper from Delva with 17:30 to play, and then saw the biggest lead of the second half come on a Silvia three pointer with 12:22 to play. That three-ball gave Hartford a 43-31 advantage.

Northeastern answered that double digit lead with a 10-0 run over the next two minutes, to pull within two, 43-41, with 10:39 to play. The Hawks then responded by scoring five-straight points on a jumper, layup and free throw from Delva, but the Huskies were going to fight to the end, answering Hartford run with their own 5-0 run.

Hartford again scored five-straight unanswered points to take a 53-46 lead with 4:30 to play, but Northeastern responded with six-straight points to come the closest they had been all night 53-52 with 2:25 to play. After a Beverly jump shot as the shot clock expired with 1:47 to play, the Huskies scored on a layup form Deanna Kerkhoff.

The Hawks were unable to convert on their next attempt, a three-pointer from Smith. Northeastern's Wilson was then fouled with 1:02 to play, however the sophomore was only able to come up with one-of-two free throw attempts, knotting the score at 55 with 1:02 to play. Neither team could come up with a basket in the final minute, forcing the second overtime in three games for Hartford.

The Hawks opened the extra period with a three points from Silvia after Delva won the tip. The Huskies then scored a free throw on the next possession and then a layup from Rachael Pecota on the subsequent possession to tie the game at 59 with 3:10 left in the extra frame.

Hartford answered that 3-0 run with a three points from Hall and a fast break jumper from Hall to go up for good, 64-59. A free throw from Silvia gave the Hawks a six-point advantage in the extra period, and the Huskies were able to get no closer than three on a layup from Jamie Conroy with 20 seconds remaining. Smith knocked down a duo of free throws, before a pair of missed three pointers in the final seconds for Northeastern sealed the Hawks victory.
