BOX SCORE

ALBANY, NY - The University of Hartford men's basketball team advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2009 America East Championship with a 65-56 victory over the University of Maine on Friday night at SEFCU Arena.

Senior Jaret von Rosenberg scored a game-high 21 points and became the 22nd player in school history to amass 1,000 career points. The Hawks (7-25 overall), who snapped a 14-game losing streak, will face top-seeded Binghamton University on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Hartford led by as many as 11 points in the second half before Maine whittled the lead down to one at 54-53 with 2:33 to play. Von Rosenberg bumped the lead back to three with a pair of free throws, and the Black Bears came up short on a long-range attempt for the tie. The Hawks then used the entire 35-second shot clock before sophomore Andres Torres banked in a three-pointer as time expired.

The Hawks closed out the game by going 6-of-6 from the foul line in the final 29 seconds. Von Rosenberg was a perfect 7-of-7 from the stripe while the team finished 11-of-13. Hartford shot 51 percent from the floor and forced 18 turnovers on defense.

Von Rosenberg, who was named to the all-conference third team earlier in the day, scored 18 of his 21 points in the second half. His 1,000th career point came on a reverse lay-up with 4:13 to go that put the Hawks up 54-49.

Sophomore Morgan Sabia added 13 points and five rebounds while freshman Genesis Maciel netted all eight of his points in the first half. Maciel was 4-of-4 from the floor and provided the spark that propeled the Hawks to a 33-28 halftime lead.

Gerald McLemore scored 13 points but was the only Black Bear in double figures. Maine shot 48 percent for the game.
