Women's Hoop Falls to BC on the Road on Monday 93-66

BOX SCORE

Chestnut Hill, Mass. – The University of Hartford women's basketball team fell to 0-2 on the season after dropping its second game 93-66 at Boston College on Monday night. The Hawks were led by three players in double figures with Jackie Smith and Alex Hall leading the way with 11 points each.

After opening the game making their first three attempts and taking an 8-3 lead, the Hawks allowed a 22-0 run which gave the Eagles a 25-8 lead that they would never look back from. During that run the Hawks were plagued by turnovers, finishing the first 20 minutes with 18. The Eagles capitalized on those ball handling errors, turning them into 13 unanswered points.

In the second half, the Hawks committed just six turnovers, but were never able to manage more than a 5-0 run. Every time the Hawks attempted to put together a run, the Eagles would answer with one that matched or was one basket better. The last time a Hartford team gave up 90 or more points was against Vermont during the 1999-2000 season.

Overall, the Hawks finished the game shooting 37.9 percent 25-of-66 overall. The Hawks second half shooting percentage nearly doubled that of the first half as Hartford connected on 20-of-45 in the second half (44.4 percent). The Hawks outside shooting also returned as they made 10-of-28 (35.7 percent) from long range.

Joining Smith and Hall in scoring double figures was sophomore Daphne Elliott who finished with 10 points. Combined the three were 12-of-29 from the floor, led by Smith's 4-of-8 performance. Mary Silvia added nine points, while Nikkia Smith and Ruthanne Doherty each added seven points.

As a team, the Hawks again struggled to rebound the ball, with the Eagles securing a 49-34 advantage on the boards. Doherty and Nikkia Smith led the Hawks in rebounding with seven boards each.

Hartford will make its return to the Reich Family Pavilion as they welcome in the Big East's Providence College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. for the home opener.
