NORMAN, Okla. - Hartford senior men's golfer
Nick MacDonald was among the 119 Division I student-athletes named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Thursday. The honor adds to a growing list for MacDonald, who was named a Division I PING All-Northeast Region performer last month. MacDonald also was named to the All-New England Division I Golf Association's first team in May.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
MacDonald led the Hawks with four top-10 finishes, including a seventh-place finish at the America Sky Championship to conclude the season. That came on the heels of a sixth-place tie at the New England Division I Championships on April 10-11. His 75.42 stroke average paced the team, and he was one of two Hawks - along with fellow senior Zack Ungvarsky - to play in all 26 rounds in which Hartford competed.
MacDonald was Hartford's most consistent player throughout the season, firing rounds in the seventies in eight of his final nine collegiate rounds. He also carded the best round of the season for Hartford, a 65 at the ODU/Seascape Collegiate Invitational in October.
