WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -
The Hartford men's basketball team's season came to an end on Sunday night when it fell to Boston University in the semifinals of the America East Championship, 55-49. Genesis Maciel and Morgan Sabia had 13 points each to lead the Hawks.

In front of 2,169 fans, the Hawks and Terriers gave the 2011 America East Men's and Women's Basketball Championships at Chase Arena at the Reich Family Pavilion a fitting end. The teams went back and forth throughout the game, with 13 lead changes and neither team ever building a double-digit lead.

Hartford had a chance to tie or take the lead at the end of the game, but they came up empty with 11 seconds to go, and the Terriers grabbed the rebound to essentially end the Hawks' chances.

Boston University hit 20-of-22 free throws on the game, while Hartford knocked down just two of their five attempts.

The game ended the careers of five Hartford seniors, each of whom saw time on Sunday night. Milton Burton, Kevin Estes, Anthony Minor, Morgan Sabia and Joe Zeglinski were integral parts of head coach John Gallagher's inaugural season, which saw the Hawks won 11 games, their most since a school-record 18 wins in 2007-08.

Sabia's 13 points were his most since February 12 at Boston University after battling nagging injuries through the final stretch of the year. Zeglinski, the second Hawk in Division I history to reach the 2,000 point plateau, scored seven points on Sunday night, finishing with 2,016 career points.

The Hawks were plagued by a rough interior shooting night, as several point-blank shots rimmed in and out. Nevertheless, the team made up for it by forcing 17 Terrier turnovers, leading to 20 points. Burton and Minor had two steals each. Burton finished the season with 67, the third-most in a single season by a Hawk in the Division I era.

A night after scoring a career-high 19 points, Genesis Maciel was once again the hot hand for Gallagher and the Hawks, shooting 5-for-11 from the floor and 3-for-7 from downtown. Maciel played 30 minutes off the bench adding two assists and a steal.
