WEST HARTFORD, Conn. –
The University of Hartford men's basketball team could not keep up with Boston University's second half scoring surge as it fell to the Terriers, 65-46, on Sunday afternoon at the Chase Family Arena at the Reich Family Pavilion. With the loss, the Hawks snap a three-game win streak and drop to 4-15 and 4-3 in the America East. The Terriers, which extended its streak to six games and improves to 6-1 in the conference (10-11 overall), remain tied with Stony Brook for first place in the league standings.

For the Terriers, Darryl Partin led all scorers with 22 points while D.J. Irving finished in double figures with 15, including a perfect 3-of-3 from three point land. The Hawks also had a pair of players reach double digit point totals as freshman Wes Cole and senior Andres Torres netted 11 and 10, respectively.

The opening stanza proved to be a defensive battle as both teams combined for just 32 points and were held to season-lows in first half point totals. At the halftime break, the Terriers, who never trailed in the contest, held the advantage at 19-13.

Neither team shot the rock well in the opening 20. Boston University went just 29.2-percent from the floor (7-of-24) while Hartford was held to 20.8-percent (5-of-24), including 0-of-11 from downtown.

Hartford couldn't' get things going early on in the second half and Boston University converted on its offensive end to claim a double digit advantage for the first time in the contest. The Terriers got hot and outscored the Hawks, 19-6, over the opening 6:08 with Partin providing 13 of his team's points during that span to push the visitors ahead by 21 at 40-19 with 13:52 remaining.

After going down by as much as 22, the Hawks managed to cut that deficit to 10 points with 4:34 to play in the game. A pair of three's by Cole and by classmate Nate Sikma helped make a 15-3 Hartford run possible. The Hawks would come no closer to the Terriers however as BU's lead quickly ballooned back to 16 thanks to six-straight points by Partin.

The Terriers were dominant on the boards, more than doubling Hartford's 20 rebounds with 41, 10 of which came off the offensive glass. Dom Morris pulled down 12 rebounds for Boston University while Mark Nwakamma, Torres and Genesis Maciel each registered four to lead the Hawks.

The Hawks hit the road again on Wednesday, January 25 when they visit Stony Brook for their final contest in the first loop through the America East. The Hawks lead the overall series with the Seawolves, 13-10, but have lost the last six including a pair of games last season. Tip-off between the league rivals is set for 7:00 p.m.
