Bepko Scores Season High 16 in Loss at Boston College

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Junior guard Amber Bepko scored a career-high 16 points, including five three pointers, as the University of Hartford women's basketball team dropped a 45-65 decision on the road at Boston College on Sunday afternoon.

Bepko's 16 points marked the only player to finish in double figures for the Hawks (1-8 overall). She closed out the game shooting 5-of-10 overall with all 10 shots coming from outside the three point arc. She also grabbed a pair of steals. Overall, Hartford shot 33.3 percent, making 17 of their 51 field goal attempts. Seven of the 17 made buckets came from beyond the three point line, attempting 22 three pointers overall.

Following Bepko in the scoring column was freshman Morgan Lumb who finished with five points. Shanise Bultron, Alyssa Englert, La'Trice Hall, Alyssa Reaves and Cherelle Moore all chipped in four points. The Hawks also dropped the battle of the boards with a 48-26 margin, led by Moore who finished with five rebounds. Deanna Mayza led the Hawks with four assists.

After Hartford took an early 4-2 lead on back-to-back fastbreak layups from Lumb and Englert, the Eagles rattled off eight straight for the first lead change of the afternoon. Hartford would respond by scoring nine of the next 11 points, taking a 13-12 edge with 8:47 remaining.

After trading leads on laupups from BC's Kristen Doherty and Hartford's Hall, the Earned scored 12 of the next 15 points to take a 26-18 lead, with that representing the final lead change of the game. The lone points in that Eagles rally came on a three pointer from Bepko, who would score two more from outside the arc before the half was over, leading all players at the break with 12 points.

A strng of three three-pointers for the Eagles in the first seven minutes of the second half allowed the home team to take a 16-point advantage with 13:20 remaining in the game. All three of those long range buckets came from different players.

Trailing by 15, 48-33, with just under 10 minutes remaining in regulation, the Hawks began to mount a comeback scoring five straight. The Eagles halted that momentum with a three pointer from Nicole Boudreau with 7:23 remaining.

Boston College's largest lead of the afternoon came at the final buzzer after Kat Cooper closed ou the contest scoring the final five points for the Eagles. Hartford's final bucket of the contest came from Lumb, a three pointer from the corner with 2:02 remaining.

The Hawks close a five-game road stretch with its 2013-14 America East Conference opener against the Maine Black Bears at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. Overall against Maine, the Hawks trail the Black Bears 25-37, however Hartford has won the last 17 match-ups dominating the series. The Hawks and Black Bears will tip off each other's conference scheduled at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11.
