HEMPSTEAD, N.Y.—The University of Hartford men's and women's tennis teams headed to Long Island Wednesday for a midweek matchup at Hofstra. The Hawks could not pull off the upsets on the road as the men fell by a 5-1 count and the women dropped a 7-0 result.
Senior
Josh Isaacson picked up a point for the Hartford men with a victory in singles play. The Marietta, Ga., native played at the No. 4 singles spot against the Pride, earning a two-set win over Hofstra's Ryhaan Gill. Isaacson took the first set by a 6-4 count before finishing with a 6-2 victory in the second set to take the match. The win was Isaacson's fifth singles win of the Spring and his fourth in his last six starts.
Fellow senior
Marco Neves played a closely contested match at No. 2 singles against Matthew Gemmell. Gemmell took the first set, 6-4, but Neves was able to break through in the second, scoring a 7-6 victory to force a third set. Gemmell took the third set by a 6-3 final to pick up the point for the Pride.
On the women's side, sophomore
Christie Greenberg and freshmen
Colleen Beck and
Sarah Bennett each earned game wins in their matches before eventually falling to their Pride opponents.
The Hawks do not have long before returning to the courts. Both Hartford squads head to Jersey City, N.J., Friday afternoon for matches at Saint Peter's. The Hawk women will then play Saturday on the road at in-state rival UConn. Sunday, both teams will be in Andover, Mass., for matches against Merrimack College before returning home for a date with Sacred Heart on campus in West Hartford.
