Cherelle Moore also finished among the leading scorers with eight points. As a team, Hartford finished the game shooting 30.9 percent from the field (21-of-68), including making just 25 percent of their three point opportunities (6-of-24).
The 10 rebounds by the freshman post also led Hartford as the Hawks finished with a 47-41 advantage on the boards. She was joined by classmate La'Trice Hall and Moore in leading the team as they finished with nine and seven, respectively. Hall's nine boards is a new career-high for the rookie. Elizabeth Belanger led New Hampshire with eight rebounds while Corinne Coia led all scorers with 16 points.
Hartford came out of the gates to open up an early 8-0 lead forcing the Wildcats to call for time. The opening run consisted of a three pointer from Shanise Bultron, an old fashioned three point play from Moore and a layup from Reaves. New Hampshire's first points of the game came on a three pointer from Kelsey Hogan nearly three minutes into the action.
The Hawks extended that early lead to its largest of the game, hitting an 18 point advantage on two occasions. Included in that stretch was a 9-0 run for Hartford which resulted in a 19-5 lead with 8:31 remaining in the half. That run included back-to-back baskets from Morgan Lumb as well as another three pointer from Bultron and an additional layup from Reaves.
The first 18-point advantage for the Hawks came with 6:09 remaining in the opening half thanks to a jump shot from Moore which resulted in a 26-8 lead. After a three point play from the Wildcats Kristen Anderson, Mayza provided the second 18-point lead when she knocked down her only three pointer of the afternoon with 5:43 remaining before the break.
Following that basket, the Wildcats would score 11 of the final 15 points to pull within 11 at the break. Moore was tied for a game-best seven points to lead Hartford into the locker room, while Reaves had amassed nine of her 10 total rebounds in the first 20 minutes.
Bepko would provide the first offense in the second half connecting on a three pointer 22 seconds into the action, but the Wildcats began chipping away at what was a 14 point Hartford lead. New Hampshire pulled their deficit into single digits just over three minutes into the second half, following Bepko's three pointer by scoring 11 of the next 15 points making it a six-point game with 16:22 on the clock.
Hartford extended that lead back to a nine point advantage thanks to another three pointer from Bepko, but New Hampshire would cut it down to a two possession game with 12:17 remaining thanks to a 5-0 run that included a pair of baskets from Kendall Martenet.
After a jump shot from Reaves gave Hartford a 50-45 lead with 7:50 remaining, the Wildcats used another 5-0 run to tie the game for the first time with 4:43 remaining. The Hawks last lead followed that as Moore would hit 1-of-2 at the free throw line to take a 51-50 advantage. That lead was erased as the Wildcats used a 6-0 run over the next 1:26 to take their largest lead at 56-51 with 2:50 remaining.
Hartford would cut the New Hampshire lead down to a single possession on two occasions, the second of which came with 1:18 remaining, but UNH would go on to score the final three points and take home its third conference victory (3-0 America East) 61-56.
