BOSTON, Mass.—The University of Hartford indoor track and field teams picked back up for the spring schedule last weekend with a pair of meets in the Hub City. The squad split between the Terrier Invitational at Boston University and the Joe Donahue Indoor Games at the Reggie Lewis Center.
A group of four distance runners competed at the Terrier Invitational as senior
Megan Barry and sophomore
Sara Buckley represented the Hartford women in the 5,000 meters while senior
John Busque and
Andrew Dwyer raced in the 5,000 and 1,000, respectively, for the men. Both Barry and Dwyer set school records at the meet. Barry finished seventh in the 5,000 with a time of 17:04.73, smashing Elizabeth Foster's previous school-best, set in 2009, by 28.60 seconds. Her time currently ranks 23rd in the nation among collegiate women. Dwyer turned in a school-record 1,000-meter time of 2:31.20, more than .50 seconds ahead of the previous mark, to take 27th overall.
At the Joe Donahue Games, junior sprinter
Tiffany Harrison paced the Hartford contingent with a pair of top-10 finishes. Harrison won her heat in the 400 meters with a New England qualifying time of 58.44 seconds. She finished sixth overall in the event. The junior also sprinted to seventh place in the 200 meters, crossing the line in 26.29.
Sophomore
Kafesha Thomas also posted a top-10 result as she took 10th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.11 seconds, .04 seconds ahead of junior teammate
Merrica Modeste, who finished 13th in the event. Thomas also finished 14th in the 200 meters, covering the distance in 26.75.
In the distance events, senior
Jennifer Flores turned in a career-best mile time of 5:14.79 to take 20th place overall in the event.
On the men's side, freshman
Jordan Crump-King leapt to fourth place in the triple jump with a mark of 13.52 meters. He finished just ahead of sophomore teammate
Robert Pepper in the final standings. Pepper took fifth place with a 13.10-meter jump.
The Hartford track and field teams are back in action this weekend when they head to Hanover, N.H., for the Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday, February 1.
