Volleyball Falls to Albany in Five Sets

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University of Hartford volleyball team dropped a five-set match to the University at Albany Great Danes in an America East conference matchup on Sunday afternoon.  The Hawks (11-9, 1-3 America East) were led by senior outside hitter Sareeta Nethersole, recording her 13th double double of the season with 22 kills and 19 digs.

Nethersole added to her offensive performance with a team high .328 hitting percentage with 22 kills on 58 attempts with three errors. Senior Kathryn Gawrych added 13 kills for a .323 hitting percentage, while setter Jackie Tamburri finished with 52 assists to add to the Hawks new five set season high of 61 against the Great Danes. Freshman Katy Henchy added nine kills at the net while sophomore Corinne Horanzy and junior Chandler Goodwin followed with eight a piece.

As a team, the Hawks recorded 77 digs including five Hawks in double digits for the third time this season led by Nethersole's 19 and sophomore libero Paola Llerandi's 17. Joining the dig parade were Horanzy, Tamburri, and sophomore Erinn Lavelle who finished with a combined 34 digs.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

·          Senior outside hitter Sareeta Nethersole recorded her 13th double double of the season with 22 kills and 19 digs. Her 22 kills is the third-straight match with 20-plus kills.

·          As a team, the Hawks finished with five players in double digit digs for the third time this season.

·          Senior Jackie Tamburri's 52 assists led the Hawks to a new five set season high of 61.

·          The Hawks and Great Danes saw 20 tie scores with nine lead changes while alternating set wins.

·          Nethersole recorded a team high .328 hitting percentage with 22 kills and three errors on 58 attempts.
 

SET BREAKDOWN

SET ONE

·          Nethersole led the Hawks offense with four kills on 11 attempts with one error for a .272 hitting percentage.

·          Horanzy and Goodwin added two kills apiece.

·          Defensively, the Hawks finished with 16 digs led by Llerandi with six.  

SET TWO

·          The Hawks started off the set strong scoring the first six points.

·          Nethersole had six kills followed by Henchy and Gawrych with two apiece.

·          As a team, the Hawks had their best defense at the net with three total blocks.

·          Lavelle contributed five digs defensively. 

SET THREE

·          Gawrych led the Hawks offense recording a .429 hitting percentage with three kills on seven attempts.

·          Nethersole finished with five kills throughout the set.

·          Defensively, Nethersole and Lavelle led the Hawks with three digs apiece. 

SET FOUR

·          The Hawks saw their best hitting performance throughout the match with a .286 percentage on 18 kills with four errors on 49 attempts.

·          Tamburri was perfect at the net with a .1000 hitting percentage on three kills.

·          As a team, the Hawks posted their best dig performance with 21 digs led by Nethersole's six.

·          Horanzy and Llerandi finished with five digs apiece. 

SET FIVE

·          Goodwin led the Hawks offensively posting a .500 hitting percentage with two kills.

·          Nethersole led the Hawks at the net with three kills while contributing four digs defensively.

·          Llerandi and Lavelle added three digs apiece.
