Hawks Record Offensive Bests in 3-1 Defeat Over UMBC

BALTIIMORE, Md. – The University of Hartford Hawks defeated the UMBC Retrievers in a conference road matchup Sunday afternoon (25-27, 25-17, 25-22, 25-22).  Freshman Katy Henchy led the Hawks with 15 kills while adding two block assists to tie her for second all-time in a single season.

After a close overtime first set loss, the Hawks won three straight sets while finishing with a four-set best offense of the season with 60 kills for a .290 hitting percentage along with 46 assists. Senior Sareeta Nethersole and sophomore Chandler Goodwin followed Henchy in kills with 14 apiece. Senior Jackie Tamburri led the Hawks in hitting percentage with a perfect five kills on five attempts while senior Maya Louis recorded a .421 hitting percentage with nine kills on 19 attempts and one error to add to the season-best four sets. Tamburri finished with 46 of the 55 Hawk assists. 

The Hawks defense was led by senior duo Nethersole and Tamburri who recorded 15 digs apiece.  Sareeta's 15 digs combined with her 14 kills on offense combines for her 17th double- double of the season.  As a team, the Hawks finished with eight blocks led by Louis and senior Kathryn Gawrych who each added one total block and three block assists.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

·         The Hawks recorded their best four-set offense of the season with 60 kills, .290 hitting percentage, and 46 assists.

·         Senior Sareeta Nethersole finished with her 17th double- double of the season with 15 digs and 14 kills.

·         Freshman Katy Henchy's two block assists ties her for second all-time in a single season with 64 overall.

·         The Hawks and Retrievers saw a tight first set finishing 27-25 in overtime.

·         Recording a perfect game, senior Jackie Tamburri finished with five kills on five attempts while adding 46 of the 55 team assists on offense.

SET ONE

·         The Hawks and Retrievers rallied into extra's finishing with a 27-25 set score.

·         Goodwin led the Hawks net game with four kills while Nethersole and Henchy added three apiece.

·         Louis finished with a .400 hitting percentage through the set.

·         As a team the Hawks finished with 13 digs on defense led by Nethersole's seven. 

SET TWO

·         Hartford tallied 17 total kills led by Nethersole with five and Louis with three.

·         Tamburri finished the set perfect on two kills while adding 11 assists on offense.

·         As a team, the Hawks combined for 22 digs with eight of the players contributing to the total.

·         The Hawks led the Retrievers in kills, hitting percentage, assists, digs, and blocks throughout the set. 

SET THREE

·         As a team, the Hawks recorded a .414 hitting percentage in the set with six players hitting above .300.

·         Goodwin led the net game with five kills for a .400 hitting percentage.

·         Henchy and Nethersole each finished with three kills apiece. 

SET FOUR

·         Tamburri finished with two kills to add to her perfect afternoon while leading the defense with four digs.

·         Henchy led the offense with five kills followed by Nethersole and Goodwin with three apiece.
