LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Senior keeper Alison Koerkenmeier led the University of Hartford women's soccer team to its fourth shutouts, in five games, as the Hawks finished in a 0-0 double overtime draw against the Siena Saints on Sunday afternoon. Hartford is now 2-1-2 overall in 2014 and will make their home field debut on Thursday night when they welcome the Wagner Seahawks to Al-Marzook Field for a first time meeting between the two programs.
Hartford finished its second draw of the season with a 15-7 shot advantage over the Saints, led by senior Chanel Johnson who took four shots on goal while Elise Galipo and Erica Primovic each added three scoring attempts. Six of the Hawks 15 total shots forced Siena keeper Taylor Booth into action as she finished with a game-high six saves.
The Hawks took the first shot of the game in the 17th minute with Galipo sending her first attempt over the crossbar. Just under five minutes later Sidney Spremullo fired a shot that forced Booth to make her first save of the game. She would need to make one more in the opening half, that coming in the 38th minute off the boot of Kristen McAdams.
Hartford sent two more shots on goal in the second period, both of which came from freshman, Briana Burt and Melina Spanos. In the first overtime period, Hartford kept the pressure on Siena for much of the 10 minute frame, placing two shots on goal, both coming within three minutes of each other. Primovic would provide both of those scoring opportunities, the first on a header attempt in the 94th minute and the second early in the 97th minute.
In the second extra frame, the Hawks took just one shot in the 10 minute period, while Koerkenmeier faced a pair of attempts late in the contest, the second of which forced her to protect the shutout and collect her fourth save of the day.
