THE LEAD:
Katy Henchy led the way with nine kills, but UMBC snapped the Hawks' two-game winning streak with a 3-0 win on Friday night. Maddie Schneider delivered 15 kills in the victory for the Retrievers, who earned a crucial win in the America East standings.

SET ONE:
After the Hawks took a 2-1 lead, UMBC ran off five straight points to garner a 6-2 advantage. The teams traded points to 9-5 before Hartford rallied with five of the next six points, including a block by Paulina Modestow and Kathryn Gawrych to tie it up at 10. But UMBC rallied to open a 17-11 advantage, and the Hawks got no closer than four the rest of the way.

SET TWO:
Hartford came roaring out of the gates in the second, jumping out to a 7-2 lead on the strength of two Henchy kills and a third from Rachel Moll to force a UMBC timeout. Slowly, the Retrievers began to whittle away at the deficit, finally gaining a lead at 13-12. The Hawks were able to regain the lead on a Henchy ace, but UMBC rallied to take eight of the set's last 10 points to finish off the victory.

SET THREE:
UMBC built a quick 6-2 lead and after several sides out, the teams found themselves in a 9-5 score. The Hawks were able to get two in a row after a block by Moll and Astrid Mangual, but UMBC pulled ahead 14-8. The Hawks trimmed it to 14-10 on a pair of Gawrych kills, but that was as close as they would get with the Retrievers posting a 25-16 win.
