THE BASICS:
RESULT:Â North Florida 81, Hartford 60
LOCATION:Â Chase Arena at Reich Family Pavilion (West Hartford, Conn.)
ATTENDANCE:Â 539
RECORDS:Â UNF (4-2); Hartford (3-3)
THE LEAD:George Blagojevic scored 17 points, but North Florida placed four players in double figures to knock off the Hartford men's basketball team, 81-60 on Friday night.
Justin Graham (11) and
Jalen Ross (11) each finished in double digits as well for the Hawks.
Â
UNF, which advanced to the NCAA Tournament last year and defeated Illinois in its season opener this season, got a double-double from leading scorer Dallas Moore (16 points, 14 rebounds, seven assists) to go along with Beau Beech (15), Trent Mackey (13) and Aaron Bodager (13) in double figures.
FIRST HALF:The two teams came slow out of the gate, with the Hawks building an early 8-4 lead on the strength of two
Taylor Dyson threes and a layup from Blagojevic. But UNF then embarked on a 17-3 run to open up a 21-11 lead, with only a triple from Ross in the Hawks scoring column. UNF pushed its advantage to 31-17 with 5:36 left in the stanza thanks to an edge at the free-throw line.
Â
The Hawks rallied with four straight points, the second two coming on a steal from
Jack Hobbs that led to a fast-break layup to make it 31-21. UNF, though, ran off seven straight to push the advantage to 17, and made it 41-23 at the 2:39 mark. Hartford was able to cut into the deficit just before the half, though, as Graham drilled a three to make it 43-28 going to the locker room.
SECOND HALF:UNF extended the lead to 20 with five straight out of the break, but the Hawks rallied with six straight points, the final three from Blagojevic on a triple that made it 48-34. The Ospreys halted that rally, but the Hawks continued to chip away, getting it down to 11 at 55-44, and then Graham saw a three-ball rattle in and out – a basket that would have cut it to single digits.
Â
UNF bounced back and embarked on a 9-2 run that pushed the lead to 64-46. From then on, the Hawks were unable to get any closer than 14 on Blagojevic's final three-ball of the night at the 4:43 mark, as UNF closed out the game on a 12-5 rally.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:• Blagojevic recorded his third-straight game in double-figures and the fourth of his career. His seven field goals and 15 attempts were both career highs. He is now shooting .647 (11-for-17) from beyond the arc this year.
Â
• Hartford is now 0-3 on the year when fewer than four people finish in double figures in the scoring column. Ross finished in double figures for the second time this year, Graham for the fourth.
Â
• The Hawks had a tough shooting night from the field, going 20-for-64 (.313) without
John Carroll and
Pancake Thomas. Thomas is day-to-day for the Hawks, while Carroll is out for the season.
Â
• Graham's three steals were a season high, as were his four assists.
UP NEXT:Hartford will play its third home game of the week in Chase Arena at Reich Family Pavilion on Sunday, taking on St. Francis at 4 p.m. Prior to that, the Terriers will take on UNF on Saturday at 7 in West Hartford.
