RESULTS vs WAGNER
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Junior Nicholas Sharwarko earned back-to-back singles victories, winning both of his fourth singles matches against Hofstra and Wagner as the University of Hartford men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to the Pride on Friday and a 6-1 decision to the Seahawks on Sunday.
"I was very proud of Nick for getting two more great wins at fourth singles'" said head coach Toor Terranova. "He is stepping up in a big way right now for himself and we hope that his confidence keeps allowing him to mature."
Joining Sharwarko in earning a singles victory on Friday against Hofstra was sophomore Morgan White who earned his second singles victory in the last three matches, defeating the Pride's Stuart Hofstra's MacLeod convincingly, 6-0, 6-3. Sharwarko's singles victory also came in straight sets as he opened with a 6-4 win in the first set and shutout Hofstra's Ricky Hendler 6-0 in the second set.
In doubles play, Hartford also scored a victory at second doubles with Ryan Lugtu and Alexander Romaine posted a 6-2 decision, also against Hendler and MacLeod.
Sharwarko's victory against the Seahawks resulted in the only point for Hartford, with that win again coming at fourth singles. After winning the opening set 6-3, his Wagner opposition, Allen Wang, forced a tiebreaker with Sharwarko scoring the victory 7-6 (7-4).
Hartford also picked up another doubles victory against Wagner, this time with Juan Molina and Daniel Rombola winning at third doubles. The pair combined to win in a tiebreaker, defeating the Seahawks' Wang and Jakob Mostyn-Kolb 8-7 (7-5).
