Ostberg Goes 2-4 to Lead Baseball in Series Opening Loss at BYU, 6-0

PROVO, Utah – Freshman catcher Erik Ostberg drove in a pair of runs while going 2-of-4 at the plate as Hartford dropped the final game of a four game series against the BYU Cougars by a 11-7 final. Ostberg was one of three Hawks who finished with two hits to lead the team, joined by sophomore first baseman David MacKinnon and senior right fielder Ryan Lukach.

Ostberg was one of six different players who drove in runs against the Cougars, while his two RBI are a career-high for the rookie backstop. In addition to joining Ostberg with a team-high two hits, Lukach also drove in a run on what was the lone extra base hit for Hartford, a double to right center field.  

Junior starter Sam McKay suffered his first loss of the season, giving up seven runs, six earned, on six hits in five innings of work. John McGinty and Jeremy Charles each saw time in a relief roll on the hill with Charles leading the duo pitching a scoreless four outs, giving up just one hit.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

·       Six different Hawks provided hits, led by three players who all finished 2-of-4 at the plate. Among the trio, freshman catcher Erik Ostberg led the way as he drove in two runs, his first multi RBI game in a Hartford uniform.

·       Joining Ostberg with a team-high two hits was sophomore first baseman David MacKinnon and senior outfielder Ryan Lukach, who also drove in one run, one of six different players who muscled home runs.

·       Junior right hander Sam McKay suffered his first loss of the season in three starts. McKay gave up seven runs, six earned, on six hits in five innings of work.

·       Junior reliever Jeremy Charles was one of two relievers who saw work against BYU, leading the pair by not giving up a run and allowing just one hit in 1.1 innings of work.

·       Freshman Erik Ostberg drove in a career-high two runs against BYU, his first career RBI's as a collegiate player. He is now one of five different freshmen who have driven in at least one run this season.

·       Three different players finished with multiple hits in the series finale at BYU – Ostberg, David MacKinnon and Ryan Lukach. Of the three, Ostberg and Lukach each drove in runs, while one of Lukach's hits was the lone extra base dinger for Hartford, a double.
