THE LEAD: Five different players had a share in the goal scoring on Sunday afternoon as the University of Hartford women's soccer team downed Bryant, 5-0, at Al-Marzook Field on Sunday afternoon. A trio of players finished with three points in the offensive explosion, which was sparked by freshman Julia Carr's game-winning penalty kick in the 27th minute. Classmate Ashley Claud and redshirt junior Caroline Massey also contributed one goal and an assist apiece while juniors Aaliyah Ingram and Tori Tripp rounded out the scoring by adding tallies in the 44th and 69th minutes.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
·         After dominating possession for most of the match, including back-to-back looks by freshman Julia Carr and senior Elise Galipo that forced Bryant keeper Rachel Brightman into action within the first 10 minutes, the Hawks broke open the game in the 27th minute and never looked back.
·         After getting brought down inside of the box by a Bulldogs' defender, Carr slid a low shot to the near post and eluded a diving Brightman to make it a 1-0 contest with the successful penalty kick.
·         Bryant would see its first and lone shot attempt of the opening half in the 34th minute, as Haley Reddish headed in a cross from Alyssa Riccione, but she put too much underneath the ball as it sailed over the crossbar.
·         Hartford would go on to score two more times before the end of the half, with junior transfer Caroline Massey and classmate Tori Tripp getting in on the action within a seven minute stretch.
·         Freshman Ashley Claud, who had just entered the match, set up a perfect ball for Massey after receiving a throw-in from senior Erica Primovic. Turniner her defender, Claud sent a high ball from the right in front of the goal, where Massey was in place to head in her first career goal as a Hawk at the 35:54 mark.
·         At 43:46, junior Tori Tripp initiated the play on what resulted in the third goal of match. Poking the ball away on a Bryant clear attempt, she set up a give-and-go just inside of the box with junior Sidney Spremullo. Her low shot to the far post beat Brightman and made it a 3-0 Hartford lead at the half.
·         After a quiet stretch to open the second, Carr helped get her team on the scoreboard again on a corner kick. Sending a cross over that snuck through the Bryant defense, Aaliyah Ingram got her left foot on the ball and booted it into the back of the net to make it a 4-0 lead in favor of Hartford.
·         Less than 10 minutes later, the Hawks struck one last time, with Massey returning the favor to Claud. The junior crossed a ball deep in the box from left to right, and Claud sent home her first career goal in the 79th minute to provide her team with the commanding 5-0 lead.
