Men's Soccer Earns Draw at Binghamton

 THE BASICS:

RESULT: Binghamton 1, Hartford 1
RECORDS: Hartford (4-5-3, 0-0-2 America East); Binghamton (5-2-5, 0-0-2)
LOCATION: Vestal, N.Y.

THE LEAD:
Jeff Tryon's goal late in the first half tied the score, and the Hartford men's soccer team went on to earn a 1-1 draw against Binghamton on the road on Saturday night. Tryon and fellow senior Andre Morrison each had solid chances in the overtime session, but the Hawks were unable to break the deadlock and settled for a point away from West Hartford.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Nikkos Psarras put Binghamton on the board in the eighth minute, when Harrison Weilbacher found a seam up the middle and fed a brilliant through-ball ahead into the box for Psarras, who deposited it just inside the right post.
  • Hartford drew even in the 39th, with Tryon delivering his third goal of the season on a brilliant corner by Udi Cohen. Cohen sent a bending ball toward the middle of the box, and his fellow senior headed the ball low and just inside the back post to knot things up at one.
  • The second half played out scoreless, with goalkeeper Jimmy Slayton keeping the game knotted up in the closing minutes, with a pair of saves in the second half.
  • Each team had chances in overtime, but Tryon and Morrison's opportunities in the second extra stanza were the best opportunities for either team.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Hartford held a 6-2 lead in corner kicks in the game, but Binghamton delivered 11 shots to the Hawks' eight in the contest.
  • For the third straight game, Hartford was whistled for fewer fouls (20) than the opposition (24). The Hawks, though, were booked three times to the Bearcats' one.
  • Slayton made four saves in the contest, marking the third time in a row and the fifth time overall that he has delivered at least four stops.
  • Tryon had half (four) of the Hawks shots in the contest, and put two attempts on goal, including his score.
  • Five Hawks field players went the full 110 minutes in the game – Kelechi Akujobi, Gael Kisombe, Andre Morrison, Mads Friis, Alexis Triadis and Tryon.
NEWS & NOTES:
  • Hartford is now 0-1-3 in overtime games this year, including an 0-0-2 mark in OT in conference play.
  • Senior defender Morrison and freshman midfielder Kisombe have started all 12 games for Hartford this season.
  • Hartford used just three substitutes in the game – senior Quentin Swift and redshirt freshmen Michael Balzan and Michael Dunn.
  • The six corners Hartford registered in the contest tied for the second most in a game this season.
  • The Hawks are now 8-7-4 all-time against Binghamton.
