THE LEAD:

The University of Hartford Men's Soccer team fell, 3-1, to Stony Brook on Wednesday night on Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium. The Hawks (4-6-3, 0-1-2 America East) took a 1-0 lead in the 57th minute on a goal from senior captain Udi Cohen, but the Seawolves connected for three goals in a seven-minute span later in the second half. Junior Thibault Duval scored twice to lead Stony Brook (7-3-2, 2-1-0 AE) to victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Cohen got the Hawks on the board in the 57th minute off a pass from Quenton Swift. Cohen got the play started, finding Swift on the end line, before Swift made a quick return pass to Cohen in the box. After slashing through the Seawolves defense, Cohen used his left foot to tuck the ball just inside the far left post.
  • Stony Brook's Thibault Duval took advantage of a rare defensive miscue by the Hawks in the 79th minute. Hartford failed to clear following a corner kick, Duval took possession at the top of the box and fired a low shot to the far past, past a diving Jimmy Slayton.
  • Duval struck again from the spot in the 85th minute, taking a pass from Martieon Watson and drilling it low, just inside the same post, to give the Seawolves a 2-1 lead.
  • Just 61 seconds later Serge Gamwanya fired another shot past Slayton, striking from 10 yards out.

  • Slayton finished with three saves for Hartford, giving him 31 stops on the season.

NEWS & NOTES:

  • Hartford defender Andre Morrison suffered a hard takedown in the 72nd minute. He appeared to be headed for the bench to recover but remained on the pitch and finished the game, marking the 11th time (in 13 game) that Morrison has played a match from start to finish.
