THE LEAD:The University of Hartford softball team was topped in its final two games of the Longwood Spring Fling on Sunday, losing a back-and-forth affair against Monmouth in the morning and being downed by host Longwood in the afternoon.

Danielle DeMarco continued her torrid hitting in game one, going 4-for-4 with a home run and five RBI. Over the last four games of the event, DeMarco went 9-for-12 with two home runs, eight RBI and five runs scored.
GAME 1: MONMOUTH 11, HARTFORD 7Monmouth jumped out to an early lead and held off a pair of strong Hartford rallies to hold on for an 11-7 victory. Along with DeMarco's performance,
Sawyer Fried and
Elizabeth Newkirk each had two hits, while Fried, DeMarco and
Jenice Aloyo each scored two runs.

Jill Freese went 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI, while Emma Hill delivered a 3-for-5 day and scored twice for Monmouth. Sydney Underhill picked up the victory for MU, while
Bianca Ross was carded with the loss for the Hawks.
HOW THEY SCORED, GAME 1:• Monmouth delivered solo tallies in both the first and second on RBI doubles.
• MU delivered a huge inning in the third, scoring five runs on five hits to make it a 7-0 lead.
• The Hawks got a run back in the bottom of the third, with Fried starting things with a double, advancing to third on a DeMarco single, and scoring on a double steal.
• Hartford rallied for three runs in the bottom of the fifth, as DeMarco delivered a two-run single and
Lexi Wilkerson picked up a bases-loaded walk to make it 7-4.
• Monmouth delivered a four-spot in the sixth, courtesy a Rachel Shotzbarger RBI single and a three-run homer by Freese.
• Hartford got three back in the bottom of the sixth on DeMarco's second homer of the weekend, a three-run shot that plated Aloyo and
Kylie Dazalla.
GAME 2: LONGWOOD 10, HARTFORD 0 (5)Longwood scored eight runs in the bottom of the third en route a 10-0 victory over Hartford in the Hawks' final game of the Longwood Spring Fling. Glenn Walters hit a solo home run and scored three times in the win for the Lancers.

Sydney Gay held the Hawks to two hits and two walks in five innings, striking out five.
Kelsey Bird was credited with the loss for Hartford.

HOW THEY SCORED, GAME 2:• Walters started the scoring with her solo homer in the bottom of the first.
• Jordan Clark made it a 2-0 lead with an RBI double in the second.
• Longwood netted eight runs on three hits, three walks and three errors in the third.

UP NEXT:Hartford will return to the Northeast for the first time this season, with a scheduled doubleheader at Manhattan on Tuesday, March 1, slated for 2 p.m.
