THE LEAD:Peyton Fisher and
Sawyer Fried each delivered three hits in a doubleheader, but the Hartford softball team was toppled by Manhattan, 5-4 and 9-2, on Tuesday. Briana Matazinski hit a home run and a double in addition to collecting a win for the Jaspers.
GAME 1: MANHATTAN 5, HARTFORD 4Elizabeth Newkirk delivered a two-run double as part of a three-run third inning, but Manhattan rallied with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 5-4 victory over Hartford.

Newkirk, Fisher and
Kylie Dazalla each had two hits in a losing effort, while
Jenice Aloyo added an RBI single. Matazinsky pitched three strong innings out of the bullpen for the Jaspers, allowing four hits and one run, to collect the win in relief.
Bianca Ross was carded with the loss in tossing all six innings for the Hawks.
HOW THEY SCORED, GAME 1:• Manhattan opened a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, with four consecutive singles to open the game plating two runs.
• Hartford got three back in the top of the third, the first coming on a groundout that plated
Marisa Ferguson.
• Two batters later, Newkirk delivered a double to score Fisher and
Lexi Wilkerson• The score remained 3-2 until the sixth, with Fisher and Newkirk each delivering singles, then Aloyo bringing Fisher home on a single to center.
• The Jaspers plated three runs on three hits and two errors in the bottom of the sixth to regain the lead.
GAME 2: MANHATTAN 9, HARTFORD 2Fried had two hits, but Manhattan came from behind to defeat Hartford 9-2 in the second game. Matazinsky had two hits, drove in two runs and scored three times, one of four players with two hits in the game.

Danielle Gabrielle collected the win with 5 1/3 innings in the circle, scattering five hits in the victory.
Kelsey Bird was carded with the loss after allowing three runs in four innings of work.

HOW THEY SCORED, GAME 2:• The Hawks came out fast, with Aloyo plating the first run on a double steal in the first.
• Later in the inning, Fisher singled home
Danielle DeMarco to make it a 2-0 lead.
• Manhattan came back with two in the second, one on a wild pitch and another on a sac fly, to tie the score.
• The Jaspers added a solo run on an RBI single in the fourth and another on a home run by Matazinsky in the fifth.
• Manhattan tacked on five runs in the bottom of the sixth to conclude the scoring.

UP NEXT:Hartford will host its home opener on Wednesday, March 9, when it takes on Central Connecticut State for a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
