THE LEAD:Central Connecticut used big innings and stellar pitching to sweep a doubleheader with the Hartford softball team on Wednesday. It marked the first home games for the Hawks this spring.
Bianca Ross had two hits in the doubleheader for Hartford.
GAME 1: CCSU 9, HARTFORD 0CCSU used a seven-run second to propel itself to victory in the first game of the day. Tori Constantin went 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI for the Blue Devils, while four other players had two hits apiece.

Emily Sargent struck out five and scattered three hits in delivering the win in the circle for the Blue Devils. Ross was carded for the loss for the Hawks.
HOW THEY SCORED, GAME 1:• CCSU plated seven runs on seven hits and three errors in the top of the second.
• Brittany McNulla had the biggest blow of the inning, delivering a two-run double lofted just inside the right-field line.
• The Blue Devils pushed it to 9-0 in the third, with a two-run double from Kaitlin Patterson.
• Sargent scattered three hits to keep the Hawks off the scoreboard.
GAME 2: CCSU 8, HARTFORD 0A four-run fifth broke open a one-run game as Central Connecticut pulled away for an 8-0 win. Evie Rentzel went 3-for-3 with three runs scored for the Blue Devils. Brittany Camara and Brittany McNulla each had two hits as well.

That was enough, as Alex Casañas was stellar in the circle, limiting Hartford to three hits and striking out three without allowing a walk in the shutout victory.

HOW THEY SCORED, GAME 2:• CCSU rallied with one out in the second, stringing together a walk and three singles to plate a run before Wilkerson got out of the jam.
• The Blue Devils delivered four runs in the top of the fifth with three hits and three walks to push the lead to 5-0.
• CCSU tacked on three runs in the top of the seventh, all unearned, with two coming on a two-run double by Kaitlin Patterson.
• Casañas was stellar in the circle, setting down the first 12 batters she faced.

UP NEXT:Hartford heads south for Spring Break, where the Hawks will take part in 11 games in Florida as part of the USF-Under Armour Invitational.
