Â
HOW THEY SCORED:
• Sacred Heart plated three runs on just one hit, as a two-run homer for Short proved the big blow as the Pioneers took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first.
• The Hawks got a run right back in the bottom, with MacKinnon doubling to right, moving to third on a groundout and coming home on an
Erik Ostberg infield RBI single.
• The Pioneers struck again in the top of the third on an RBI groundout in the top of the third to make it 4-1.
• Hartford again provided a quick answer in the bottom of the frame, with Wilson and MacKinnon singling to start the frame, then
Chris DelDebbio bringing home Wilson on a sac fly to cut the deficit to 4-2.
• Both pitchers settled in at that point, with DiMauro retiring all nine batters he faced to put zeroes on the board in the fourth, fifth and sixth.
• The Hawks plated two in the bottom of the sixth to tie the score, with a hit batsman, a walk and a
Chris Sullivan single loading the bags, an RBI groundout by T.J. Ward and an RBI single by
Ashton Bardzell making it 4-4.
• A pair of unearned runs put the Pioneers back ahead in the top of the seventh, 6-4, and another unearned run pushed the lead to 7-4 in the eighth.
• Sundahl slammed the door on the other side, keeping the Hawks at bay in the seventh and eighth, and then James Cooksey held off the Hawks in the ninth to preserve the win.
