Four different Hawks reached the back of the net on Sunday as the University of Hartford women's soccer team rolled past Delaware State by way of a 4-0 final. Rookies
Bridgette Alexander and
Sierra Stone scored their first career goals in the match, while sophomore
Ashley Claud led the charge with a career-high three points.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After a quiet start that featured 39 scoreless minutes of soccer, the Hawks' offense got hot before the halftime break. Stone was first to strike, as she connected on a pass from senior Caroline Massey in the 40th minute to make it a 1-0 contest.
- The first-half scoring wasn't over for the Hawks. With 39 seconds left to play in the stanza, Claud controlled a throw-in, and single-handedly made it a 2-0 Hartford lead at the half with a blast from 15 yards out.
- The offense continued to roll for the Hawks out of intermission. Six minutes into the second half, sophomore Julia Carr beat the Hornets' keeper with a shot from just outside of the box to make it a 3-0 lead for the visitors. It was the first goal of the season for Carr, and the seventh of her career.
- In the 77th minute, Alexander sealed the victory with her first career goal. Claud set up the marker with a cross into the box, which was headed home by Alexander for the fourth and final goal of the match.
