RECORDS: Hartford (2-1), Delaware State (0-3)
LOCATION: Alumni Stadium (Dover, Del.)

THE LEAD:

Four different Hawks reached the back of the net on Sunday as the University of Hartford women's soccer team rolled past Delaware State by way of a 4-0 final. Rookies Bridgette Alexander and Sierra Stone scored their first career goals in the match, while sophomore Ashley Claud led the charge with a career-high three points.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • After a quiet start that featured 39 scoreless minutes of soccer, the Hawks' offense got hot before the halftime break. Stone was first to strike, as she connected on a pass from senior Caroline Massey in the 40th minute to make it a 1-0 contest.
  • The first-half scoring wasn't over for the Hawks. With 39 seconds left to play in the stanza, Claud controlled a throw-in, and single-handedly made it a 2-0 Hartford lead at the half with a blast from 15 yards out.
  • The offense continued to roll for the Hawks out of intermission. Six minutes into the second half, sophomore Julia Carr beat the Hornets' keeper with a shot from just outside of the box to make it a 3-0 lead for the visitors. It was the first goal of the season for Carr, and the seventh of her career.
  • In the 77th minute, Alexander sealed the victory with her first career goal. Claud set up the marker with a cross into the box, which was headed home by Alexander for the fourth and final goal of the match.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Hartford's back line was smothering, as it held Delaware State to one shot in the first half and two in the second.
  • The Hawks held commanding advantages in shots (15-3) and shots on goal (11-2).
  • Overall, two Hornets' goalkeepers combined to make seven saves. Starting keeper Michele Lammers conceded three goals and made three saves in 56 minutes while Leslie Fazio came up with a game-best four saves in the final 34 minutes.

NEWS & NOTES:
  • Senior goalkeeper Jessica Jurg recorded one save in each half for her second shutout victory of the season.
  • Jurg now ranks fifth in program history in career wins (31) and second in shutouts (25).
  • Claud matched a career-high in scoring against the Hornets, tallying one goal and an assist for three points.
  • Three Hartford rookies have recorded a goal so far this season as Alexander and Stone joined Kaila Lozada, who scored her first career goal in last week's 1-0 win at Manhattan.
  • Sunday's meeting was the first-ever between the Hawks and Hornets.
