THE BASICS:

RECORDS: Hartford (6-3-0); Bryant (4-5-0)
LOCATION: Bulldogs Stadium (Smithfield, R.I.)

THE LEAD:

The University of Hartford women's soccer team concluded its 2016 non-conference slate with a 2-1 win at Bryant on Sunday afternoon. Rookie striker Kaila Lozada's third goal of the season broke open a 1-1 game in the 75th minute to propel the Hawks to the victory. Senior Tori Tripp scored early in the game for her first of the year, but Bryant countered that goal in the 28th minute.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Tripp wasted little time to put the Hawks on the scoreboard. In a battle for possession inside of the box, the senior midfielder prevailed and put Hartford in front with a shot to the near post 173 seconds into the match.
  • Bryant put up a plethora of shots, and converted on its sixth attempt of the game in the 28th minute. Remi Manna sent a ball towards the front of the box, and Haley Reddish finished with a shot to the upper left to knot up the score at 1-1.
  • The Hawks had the better of play in the latter part of the first, and came out of the gates firing in the second half. Hartford held an 8-2 shot advantage to start the second before Lozada pushed through a scrum in the box and beat Bryant keeper Kaylan Conradwith a soft shot to the far post in the 75th minute.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • The Hawks held advantages over the Bulldogs in shots (14-12) and corner kicks (3-1).
  • Bryant put eight of its 12 shot attempts on goal, while Hartford put less than half (6) of its 14 shots on target.
  • Sophomore Julia Carr led the Hawks' attack with four shots, forcing Conrad into action on two of those attempts.
  • Jurg compiled a game-high seven saves for her sixth win between the posts.

NEWS & NOTES:
  • Hartford improved to 5-1 against Bryant with Sunday marking the Hawks' fifth-straight victory against the Bulldogs.
  • The Hawks conclude the 2016 non-conference slate with a 6-3 mark.
  • Lozada, who scored her team-best third goal of the year, and the freshman class have combined for seven of Hartford's 19 goals this season, including four of the team's six game-winning tallies.
  • Jurg recorded her 35th win in goal for the Hawks. She is now tied for third with Maureen McShea (1985-88) in Hartford's record books in career wins.
