THE LEAD:
The University of Hartford men's soccer team held on to 2-1 victory at Northeastern on Tuesday night. All the scoring took place in a ten-minute period early in the second half. Alexis Triadis started the scoring in the 50th minute, which was quickly answered by Northeastern in the 56th minute. Kelechi Akujobi followed minutes later, netting his first goal of the season in the 58th minute, sealing the game for the Hawks.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Hawks defense was forced to step up early, as Northeastern got eight shots off in the first half. Behind three saves from keeper Jimmy Slayton, the Hartford defense kept the Huskies off the board in the first frame.
  • The Hawks broke through in the 50th minute. Alexis Triadis sent a shot from 20 yards out that hit off a Huskies defender and bounced into the goal to put the Hawks up 1-0
  • Northeastern answered moments later. Harry Swartz sent a strike from 25 yards out to the top left corner, past the diving Slayton, to knot the game up at one.
  • Four minutes later in the 59th minute, Jacob Slomski had a look from point blank range, but was punched away by Northeastern keeper Jonathan Lewis. Kelechi Akujobi was waiting in the box and immediately sent in the game winning goal, for his first goal of the season.
  • Northeastern wouldn't go out without a fight, however. The Huskies earned a corner kick with 15 seconds, and sent everyone in the box, but were unable to capitalize on the opportunity.
